Cabrillo High School Students Explore the Future of Agriculture at Plantel Nurseries

Moises and Olivia, SEEAG’s Northern SBC education team, along with Chris Waldron of Plantel Nurseries, speak with students from Cabrillo High School.

Students from Cabrillo High School had a great experience at Plantel Nurseries during their STEM Career Pathways in Agriculture Field Trip!

As a world leader in vegetable transplant production, Plantel Nurseries produces over a billion plants each year and has been at the forefront of innovation since its inception in 1987. Their focus on efficiency, quality, and cutting-edge technology has made them a standout in the industry.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Transplant Production

Sales Manager Chris Waldron and Operations Manager Stephen Waldron led students on an exciting tour of the nursery, showcasing:

  • The seeding process and how young plants get their start.

  • Germination chambers that ensure optimal growth conditions.

  • Irrigation systems designed for water efficiency.

  • Advanced machinery, including specialized equipment for mowing celery plants.

From irrigation innovations to the importance of organic seedling production, students gained a deeper understanding of the transplant industry and the many career paths within it. To top off an already incredible experience, Plantel sent students home with their own seedlings and baseball hats—a perfect way to remember the day.

A huge thank you to Plantel Nurseries for inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders.
